Looking for Southern House Plans?
Southern house plan styles usually express formality and hospitality. They are based on historic colonial designs with the addition of wide porches across the entire front of the home. Traditional southern house plans are symmetrical, rectangular and 2-story with a gable roof. They usually have a center entrance and staircase with multi-paned double hung windows. Grand southern homes may have a second story balcony across the entire front of the home with 2-story high columns. Although most Southern designs are mainly made of brick or stucco, some are built using timber frame and wooden siding. Common Features of Southern Home Plans: • Large porches and verandas • Shuttered arched and double-hung windows • Most often found in block construction but also seen in frame. • Generally has a brick, wood or stucco exterior finish. • Lots of decorative elements such as doorways with transoms. |
